As we celebrate Merdeka on 31 August and Malaysia Day this coming16 September, I am brought to reflect on the historical conditions that led to the polities now comprising our beloved Malaysia falling under the yoke of colonialism in the first place. The reasons for their downfall were undoubtedly multifaceted.
