Dr Rachel Gong

Dr. Rachel Gong is a Deputy Director of Research at Khazanah Research Institute (KRI). Her primary research interests lie in how digital technologies affect society with a policy focus on digital inclusion and digital governance. She established KRI’s research track on digital technologies with the book, "#NetworkedNation: Navigating Challenges, Realising Opportunities of Digital Transformation” and continues to lead the team working on digital transformation and digital policy.
Rachel has published work on artificial intelligence, digital health records, the platform economy, data governance and the digital divide. Her ongoing work explores digital public infrastructure, specifically digital identity, digital payments and data exchange.
Her academic research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Sociological Perspectives, the Journal of Consumer Culture, and the Journal of Technology in Human Services. Her research on “Going Viral: Online Goal Emergence and Adaptation in the Anti-Human Trafficking Movement” appears as a chapter in Communicating for Social Change: Intersection of Theory and Praxis.
Rachel graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University and received her PhD in sociology from Stanford University.
