Contract Researcher

Overview

Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) is seeking a Contract Researcher to support Project TARIFF, a research initiative examining the impact of U.S. tariffs on Malaysia. This part-time role offers the opportunity to contribute to data analysis, research, stakeholder engagement, and the development of research outputs that inform public policy discussions.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather and organise data, and conduct research and analysis (using Excel and Tableau) with minimal guidance;
• Interpret and analyse the project’s research questions;
• Conduct supporting desk research to contextualise findings;
• Monitor and update the team on international trade issues relevant to the project;  
• Contribute to drafting research products, charts, and infographics for stakeholder engagements;
• Develop presentation materials and written visuals to validate and refine findings;
• Support the preparation of stakeholder engagement sessions, ensuring accurate documentation and note-taking;
• Support project management tasks, including tracking deliverables and updating internal project documents;
• Organise and assist with stakeholder meetings and events such as focus group discussions; and
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Lead.

Requirements

• A minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree with familiarity with trade policy, economics, or public policy.  
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to work with quantitative and/or qualitative datasets.
• Familiarity with social science research methods.
• Competency in using reference management software.
• Excellent written and visual communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, creativity, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple responsibilities.
• A collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deliverable-oriented environment.
