
Going Digital But Not Fully
Having a digital presence does not mean a business is fully digital.
Many Malaysian micro and small businesses have started using digital tools to support their daily activities. Social media helps them promote their products, while digital payments make it easier to serve customers. But adopting these tools does not always change how the business operates internally.
Many businesses still rely on manual ways to manage their operations. Tasks such as tracking stock, recording finances, and managing staff information are often done separately from the digital tools they use.
Our researcher, Dr Rachel Gong, highlights that digitalisation goes beyond being online. Without connected digital systems, businesses may struggle to improve efficiency and make better use of their information. True digitalisation means using technology across the business to support better operations and growth.
