Coordinating housing for rakyat

Housing reform under the 13th Malaysia Plan is often framed around policy goals, but progress depends on how these translate into everyday outcomes. Housing does not sit within a single sector. Income, financing, planning, construction, and transport shape whether homes are truly affordable. When these move at different speeds, gaps emerge between plans and reality. At Forum Ekonomi Malaysia 2026, held on 5 February 2026, our researcher, Dr Suraya Ismail, was one of the speakers on housing reform. She highlighted efforts to improve quality of living, expand home ownership, and strengthen regulatory efficiency through closer cooperation across sectors. The discussion shows why coordinated action across sectors is needed to move housing reform beyond intention and into tangible outcomes for the rakyat.
