Time use diaries present opportunities to know lived realities.

On 13 July 2026, KRI hosted Dr Grace Chang from GenTime, the Department of Sociology at the University of Oxford.

Dr Grace showcased GenTime's research findings using harmonised time diaries. She also presented her work on the variations in time use by gender, and the relationship between work flexibilities and wellbeing in the United Kingdom (UK). Her work showed that time use is gendered and that mothers in the UK are more likely to enjoy flexible working arrangements.

Throughout the lecture, participants reflected on the applicability of time use in assessing activity patterns within societies and across groups, and its contribution to policy, such as who benefits from work-from-home policies. The session underscored the importance of understanding lived realities in formulating effective policies.
