The Sharing of the Preliminary Findings of the Night Market: Understanding the Experience & Socioeconomic Contributions (NEXUS) Report
As Malaysia adapts to evolving economic and consumer trends, strengthening the resilience of traditional businesses remains an important policy priority.
On 17 June 2026, KRI met with Yang Berhormat Hannah Yeoh and representatives from the Jabatan Wilayah Persekutuan (JWP) to share the preliminary findings of the Night Market :Understanding the Experience & Socioeconomic Contributions (NEXUS) report. The discussion highlighted the role of night markets amid rapid digitalisation and changing consumer behaviours, while informing JWP and its agencies of policy considerations to strengthen hawkers' livelihoods and enhance the resilience of night market businesses in the face of emerging economic uncertainties.
The engagement also explored the socioeconomic contributions of night markets, the challenges faced by hawkers and consumers, and early policy recommendations. KRI looks forward to continuing the conversation with JWP following the release of the full report, with further discussions on food safety, food security, nutrition, and the long-term sustainability and resilience of night markets.
